Social Mediation
Promoting harmony and inclusion in the community
More harmonious relationships
Ricochet Center's social mediation service is committed to building harmonious relationships between people experiencing homelessness and the West Island community. By being present in public spaces and accompanying homeless people, Ricochet promotes positive and inclusive use of urban space, while intervening to defuse tensions and resolve disagreements in a constructive and respectful manner.
Raising awareness and listening: strengthening community cohesion
The social mediation service goes beyond managing tensions. It includes raising awareness of the realities of homelessness and everyone's rights and responsibilities, while providing a listening ear for people in precarious situations, their loved ones and the community. Our social mediator also directs people to the resources best suited to their needs, and organizes activities designed to create moments of rapprochement and understanding.
Bounce back together in the West Island
Ricochet's commitment is to create an environment where each individual has a real chance to rebuild and regain stability. Together, let's build a supportive and inclusive community, where everyone can find support and the opportunity to bounce back.
The phenomenon
“not in my backyard”
Opposition from residents to the establishment of social or community services close to their home, thus hindering support for people in precarious situations.
The “not in my backyard” phenomenon represents a major obstacle to social reintegration, limiting the creation of much-needed support resources in the community. By reducing the possibilities for intervention, this phenomenon complicates the task of organizations like Ricochet, which work to offer crucial support to people in difficulty. Acting quickly to help those experiencing a first episode of homelessness is essential to preventing a relapse and breaking the cycle of precariousness.
